She Is The Music

She is the music
I am the words
She is the melody that gets you hooked
And I am the verse
She is the wing
And I am the bird
I could not fly
Without her

She is the melody
And she is the meter
She is the rhyme and the reason
And I swear to god I believe her

She is the music
I am the words
She is the melody that gets you hooked
And I am the verse
She is the wing
And I am the bird
I could not fly
Without her

She is the dream
That allows me to sleep
She is the voice and she is the rhythm
Every word that I speak
It's all her

Because She is the music
I am the words
She is the melody that gets you hooked
And I am the verse
She is the wing
And I am the bird
I could not fly
Without her

Because she is the music

Peaches and Honey

I've been chasing this world
Not knowing
Where the sunshine is going
When it's going down
I've been chasing these dreams
Not knowing
Always going around

A cinnamon smile
On a rainbow
near a dry western road
A peach tree near the garden of fables
A honey stained kiss
And a dream laid away and stowed

And the cloud sings a song
For the Angel wings she tries on
She flies on

When the picture is flawed to perfection
And no more saints to air moral objections
And his soul grows unfazed in the face of rejection
And the rising and setting sun find connection

We will know
The cinnamon kiss
That we missed
Peaches and honey smiles
At the end of a rainbow

And the clouds sing a song
For the wings she tries on
She flies on...

One More

There is a piece of me
That burns inside
A different face
I'd like to hide
I know can't
Because I've tried
So come along
Enjoy the ride

Gather around
Watch the show
I will explain
But you won't know
Still the same
About to blow
Mourn the flame
Where the ashes go
I will explain
You still won't know

Sidewalk narcotics
And a liquor store
You know it seems
I've wrote this song before
For one more smile
That's still adored
A shooting smile doesn't mean
It don't hurt no more

There's a piece of me
That burns inside
A different face
I'd like to hide
I know I can't
Because I've tried
So come along
And enjoy the ride

Me And Waylon

Flying down a highway
It's just me and Waylon
Hanging on every line
Every rhyme has me swaying
I know he's a long time gone
But I still believe every word he's saying
Riding down a highway
Just me and ol' Waylon

Every now and then my mind slips away
Looking back to remember
My favorite two bit whore
I can't believe I ever loved her
Guess, because I don't anymore
That old lines getting longer
My bedroom's a revolving door
Still every now and then I remember
My favorite two bit whore

Big Bertha back in Beaumont
She still turns me on
Like a shotgun whiskey chaser
And a Billy Joe Shaver song
Freight trains and cocaine
And blue eyes crying in the rain
Aching with a freedom
That borders on insane
But nothing does a damn thing for me
Like Kris Kristofferson

That old phones a ringing
Everybody wants to play
I don't mind'em coming
But everybody wanna stay
If you ain't got no cash
Then you can't afford to pay
Still I don't mind you coming
But you can't afford to stay

Flying down a highway
It's just me and Waylon
Hanging on every line
Every rhyme has me swaying
I know he's a long time gone
But I still believe every word he's saying
Riding down a highway
Just me and ol' Waylon

Hey Sadie

Sadie Baby
Sadie baby
Sadie, babe you've been gone too long
Hey Sadie,
Hey baby,
Please come back home

She said"
In all your natural life
You wanted me for your wife
When you got what you wanted
You went and messed around"
I said "Sadie baby,Sadie baby
Sadie, babe, I didn't mean to let you down.
I can't help it I've got the soul of a clown

She said
"In all your born days
You couldn't get out of your way
Now just stay out of mine
You'll sit on your front porch
Together with a bottle all alone
You'll beg and you'll cry
You'll try and you'll try
It's just a waste of time
Because Sadie baby is gone"

I cried and I cried
Said "give me one chance
I'll keep you satisfied"
She said "if you was an honest man
You wouldn't have to apologize for the times you lied
You can't right
Because you prefer to do wrong
Do wrong all alone
Because Sadie baby is gone"

And I cried:
Sadie Baby
Sadie baby
Sadie, babe you've been gone too long
Hey Sadie,
Hey baby,
Please come back home

Teardrops In The Rain

Lately my life
Is fast cars motorcycles
And Jim beam whiskey
And another young girl
Only learning to play the game
Tomorrow she better learn fast
How to miss me
Because I'll be gone
Like Teardrops in the rain

A long time ago
Maybe there was one who could've held me
But she is gone
I guess it's for the best
She found something to replace me
And I found that freedom
Means more than a word in a song

Since then I've taken
Everything I took
Living hard running out the show
You can't see, so you can't know
It's all smoke and mirrors
Just a carnival game
I will show you but you can't look
Because I'll be gone
Like Teardrops in the rain

I'll shoot you straight
And you'll find surprise
Take my truth
And turn bourbon into lies
Another driven snowflake
Fallen with a Scarlett stain
I will show you but you can't look
And I'll be gone
Like teardrops in the rain

The Dreams Of A Nightmare

She called his name last night
For the first time he did not care
She knows that she's lost him
To the dreams of a nightmare

He's somewhere fighting
His fragile self esteem
Mending his broken ego
In the arms of a living lying dream

And she cries for the chancing
Of the petty war she fought
Out chanced the chances
Of a heart she sold and bought

As the moonlight dances on her skin
Like the fingers of a stranger
Reminiscent of thunder stars
And that old holy song of mystery and danger

He's out there somewhere
Fighting his fragile self esteem
Mending his broken ego
In the arms of a living lying dream

She paints a story back in time
Of a careless burning at the stake
Dancing with the embers
She used to scorch her own fate

And he's out there somewhere
Fighting his fragile self esteem
Mending his broken ego
In the arms of a living lying dream

She called his name last night
For the first time he did not care
She knows she finally lost him
To the dreams of a nightmare

Crash and Burn

Mama was a gambling gal
Put a nickel in the slot and I come out
100 miles per hour down a red mud road
Life's a highway
I gotta see where it goes

They say flying too high
Will burn you down
But I never learned
The low way around
They say moving too fast
Your bound to crash
But I was born without brakes
So I can't slow down

Lighting a fire
Around every turn
Life's a party
I'm gonna crash and burn

They said I looked like angel
On the day I was born
They never thought to check
For my horns

A hell raising man
Eating pussy and pills
Never worried what it costs
Cause I don't pay bills

Lighting a fire
Around every turn
Life's a party
I came to crash and burn

From Himself

With one last "wish you well"
The Angels went out to play
Innocent without knowing
They spread their wings and flew away
And they left
Him with no one to save him from himself

Cigarettes on the counter
Jim beam on the floor
Looking in the mirror
Not recognizing the face he has seen
One hundred million times before

And the darkness
Hits so cold
When he thinks of the angel harem
That he sold
For one hundred million dollars worth of worthless gold

And the smile on his face
Hides the place
On the dark side where he dwells
With no one around
To save him from himself

He is riddled with stories
And illusions of a smile
Of a long ago dream
That used to seem worthwhile

No one says
Because no one knows
Just when it will come
Terrorized by the demons
He was born with dying from

He is haunted by the traces
Of the pretty life he left
Terrorized by the places
Touching him but no one else
An easy masquerade
Marching a 40 year parade
Until no one was left
To save him from himself

And he tried to leave some laughter
And some honest make believe
A little more pretty to the pretty world
That will be sadder when he leaves

An empty notebook
In a rocking world of poetry
And his burden rested with the cause
Of making love and being free

He gave them one last "wish you well"
As the Angels went out to play
Smiling as they innocently spread their wings and flew away
The burden left
With no more reason to save him from himself

Tijuana To Birmingham

She was born in Tijuana
Wild as that old western town
Somehow the years found her
Out here in Birmingham

We met in a restaurant
Swapping stories of the west
As the nighttime rolled along
She touched away the misery that was beating in my chest

And I shared with her the stories
Of a wild man who roams
She laughed with understanding
Sharing stories of her own

She was born in Tijuana
Wild as that old western town
Then landed in El Paso
And made her way to Birmingham

In the morning she told me
How she would hold me until I moved on
I knew from the night we spent without sleeping
I found a dream I thought was gone

And I shared with her the stories
Of a drunk man singing a lonesome song
She smiled with understanding
And shared a lonesome dream of her own

She was born in Tijuana
Wild as that old western town
The good lord sent her
To save a wild man from dying alone in Birmingham

She was born in Tijuana
Wild as that old western town

The Gypsy Queen

When his dear mother died
He did not grieve
He didn't bat an eye
When his pretty wife told him to leave

He spent a lifetime
Just letting things go
Like he'd never have to feel
What he would not show

And he headed east
Towards New Orleans
Dreaming in the arms
Of a gypsy queen

She charmed his eyes
And his riddled mind
With illusions of a future
He would never find

She could see
He was a desperate man
So she picked his pocket
As she held his hand

He so easily placed
His misplaced dreams
In the hands
Of a gypsy queen

But as his pockets
Were relieved of there gold
Like a crushing stone
That gypsy rolled

Then one night
That life would end
Popping dollar beer with Vicodin
In a $50 room at the chateau inn

Looking out a window
Over magazine
He saw a sad lost man
Being conned by a gypsy queen

One life over
A new began
He paid $50
And he left the chateau inn

He cried for his mother
And he cried for his wife
And he smiled down the road
At a brand new life

He thought of the horror
And the pleasures seen
Everything has a purpose
He just paid for the service of a gypsy queen

He thought of the horrors
And the pleasures seen
Everything has a reason
Even that gypsy queen
